There were seven of these sweet, fluffy goslings where I met some friends for lunch today. Kalamazoo, MI. 6 May 07.

Not a stunning photograph, but an interesting one-- a shipwreck on Short Sands beach was uncovered by the Patriot's Day storm in April. The beach has to lose about 7 feet (deep) of sand for the shipwreck to be visible. My aunt remembers seeing it after the blizzard of '78, and remembers how quickly the sand came back in to cover it up, too. These top two photos were taken by me a week after the storm. Each year a trillium blooms in the middle of our pachysandra. Our neighbor says that this year it is the most beautiful he has ever seen it-- I'm inclined to agree. 1 May 2007.

These were TOTALLY COOL. They are Broad-tipped Clearwing butterfies, so named because of their virtually clear wings. They are very small (~1.25" high), and didn't seem to move at all. I would have liked them to be on a more interesting background, to better appreciate the clearness of their wings, but like I said, they didn't move. Grand Rapids, MI. 22 April 2007.
