This rock was just outside my window at the guest house at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. With the late afternoon sun bringing out the color in it, it was quite spectacular. Abiquiu, New Mexico. 2 November 2007.

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert again. I wanted to get there before dark, so didn't have a lot of time to stop and take photos. This was taken while driving past Ghost Ranch. It was a roll-down-the-window, hold-the-camera-up-and-shoot photo, done at 60 mph (that's why the bushes in the foreground have a little motion blur to them). I've been rather busy lately, so haven't had a lot of time to post. I want to get another of the Sandhill Cranes in before I post a bunch of photos from New Mexico, where I am at the moment. Bellevue, Michigan. 21 October 2007.

The Sandhill Crane migration path in the U.S. includes the Baker Refuge northeast of Battle Creek, Michigan. Each year thousands of these enormous birds (4' tall, 6 - 7 ' wingspan) tarry for a while in a large, marshy lake. They have a very distinct call (youtube video to follow) and are an impressive sight as they all land within an hour-long time frame each evening. Bellevue, Michigan. 20 October 2007.

I don't remember exactly where this summer cottage was, except that it was somewhere between Kjelkenes and Sogndal, Norway. The grass, etc., that grows on some roofs is for extra insulation (it's also a fire hazard). 30 June 2007.

Okay, so enough of the South Haven pier, already. Besides, I promised Katie and Erin pic's of Scandinavia and only got a few posted before life intervened over the summer. So... this is in a lovely little town on the coast of Norway. Last night Margie Adam gave a concert at the Cathedral of Christ the King, and she was amazing. Having been moved by her music for thirty years it was an incredible gift to get to hear her sing and play in the Cathedral's sacred space. Wow. 9 June 2007.

There were seven of these sweet, fluffy goslings where I met some friends for lunch today. Kalamazoo, MI. 6 May 07.

Not a stunning photograph, but an interesting one-- a shipwreck on Short Sands beach was uncovered by the Patriot's Day storm in April. The beach has to lose about 7 feet (deep) of sand for the shipwreck to be visible. My aunt remembers seeing it after the blizzard of '78, and remembers how quickly the sand came back in to cover it up, too. These top two photos were taken by me a week after the storm.
