Along the Rio Chama even the brush creates interesting patterns. Near Abiquiu, New Mexico. 1 November 2007.

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

This rock was just outside my window at the guest house at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. With the late afternoon sun bringing out the color in it, it was quite spectacular. Abiquiu, New Mexico. 2 November 2007.

Monday, November 05, 2007

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert again. I wanted to get there before dark, so didn't have a lot of time to stop and take photos. This was taken while driving past Ghost Ranch. It was a roll-down-the-window, hold-the-camera-up-and-shoot photo, done at 60 mph (that's why the bushes in the foreground have a little motion blur to them). Not recommended for heavy traffic (which there wasn't)! Abiquiu, New Mexico. 31 October 2007.

I've been rather busy lately, so haven't had a lot of time to post. I want to get another of the Sandhill Cranes in before I post a bunch of photos from New Mexico, where I am at the moment. Bellevue, Michigan. 21 October 2007.

Monday, October 22, 2007

The Sandhill Crane migration path in the U.S. includes the Baker Refuge northeast of Battle Creek, Michigan. Each year thousands of these enormous birds (4' tall, 6 - 7 ' wingspan) tarry for a while in a large, marshy lake. They have a very distinct call (youtube video to follow) and are an impressive sight as they all land within an hour-long time frame each evening. Bellevue, Michigan. 20 October 2007.

Sunday, October 21, 2007

Another deer-in-the-backyard shot. Tonight we are going back to the Sandhill Crane refuge, so I expect to have some shots of those huge birds in the next couple of days. 12 October 2007.

Saturday, October 20, 2007

We had visitors in our backyard recently, though the low light proved a bit of a challenge. This was actually shot handheld, 1/30 sec, f2.8, ISO 1600. 12 October 2007.

I don't remember exactly where this summer cottage was, except that it was somewhere between Kjelkenes and Sogndal, Norway. The grass, etc., that grows on some roofs is for extra insulation (it's also a fire hazard). 30 June 2007.

Tuesday, October 02, 2007

Okay, so enough of the South Haven pier, already. Besides, I promised Katie and Erin pic's of Scandinavia and only got a few posted before life intervened over the summer. So... this is in a lovely little town on the coast of Norway. It was an incredibly beautiful day-- the one cloud in the sky is in the photo (I made sure to get it in the frame, otherwise it would have looked too surreal). Bremanger, Norway. 30 June 2007.

Monday, October 01, 2007

One last photo of sunset at South Haven, Michigan. And no, those aren't dust flecks you see when you click on it to enlarge it-- there are a few planes headed toward Chicago, and the brightest one (near the top, almost over the lighthouse) is either a planet or a star. 28 September 2007.

Saturday, September 29, 2007

The sunset over Lake Michigan was rather spectacular last night. The geese in the upper right seem a little confused, though-- they're heading north! South Haven, MI. 28 September 07.

Katie Smith and Diana Taurasi were practically joined at the hip, guarding each other. 16 September 2007.

Monday, September 17, 2007

The WNBA Detroit Shock lost to the Phoenix Mercury last night in game 5 of the best-of-five championship. It was a good game, and we had great seats. 16 September 2007.

Sunday, September 09, 2007

I've had a bit of a sabbatical from posting here, but now that I have some time... there are some wild onions out in front of our house that are in bloom and very popular with the bees. 9 September 2007.

From the other end of Lake Briksdalsvatn, looking back from near the terminus of the Briksdalsbreen Glacier, Norway. 29 June 2007.

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

This is one of my favorite photos from vacation-- if the grass weren't there it would look as if it were "right side up" from the top or bottom! It was a gorgeous day, and a gorgeous lake. This photo was taken about 7 pm, but you'd never know it since it stays light enough to read in a tent all night long. Lake Briksdalsvatn, near Briksdalsbreen Glacier, Norway. 29 June 2007.

The sale of the Cathedral of Christ the King became final today-- it was very, very sad day. May God bind up the broken hearted. 7 May 2007.

Last night Margie Adam gave a concert at the Cathedral of Christ the King, and she was amazing. Having been moved by her music for thirty years it was an incredible gift to get to hear her sing and play in the Cathedral's sacred space. Wow. 9 June 2007.

Tuesday, June 05, 2007

I was in Chicago for two events and had a couple of hours to visit Shedd Aquarium. I found this chameleon quite interesting, not only because of the colors, but because his eyes moved independently! Chicago, IL. 4 June 2007.

Friday, June 01, 2007

It's peony time-- it's the one of the first photos I've shot in over a week. I set out to try a little HDR (high dynamic range), but got lost in the wonder of the peonies themselves. 1 June 2007.

Thursday, May 24, 2007

And then there's Teeball. This adorable little one from our congregation can barely see from under his batting helmet. They start at 4 years old, and are very entertaining to watch! 21 May 2007.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Ya gotta love Bev-- not only did she play for the AAGPBL and make it to the Michigan Women's Softball Hall of Fame, she can still pound the dust out of a ball at the age of 77. 22 May 2007.

After we checked on the goslings, we stopped with our goddaughter to look for lambs at a farm in Kalamazoo on Sunday (Mother's Day). The lambs were quite adorable, especially as they bounced around the field. 13 May 2007.

Monday, May 14, 2007

I stopped to check on the goslings, and alas, there are now only two. They're still fluffy and cute and are starting to get some darker coloring. Kalamazoo, MI. 13 May 2007.

Sunday, May 13, 2007

I have no idea what these tiny (smaller than my little fingernail) flowers are, but a lawn full of them is gorgeous! Parrish Park, Kalamazoo, MI. 24 April 2007.

There were seven of these sweet, fluffy goslings where I met some friends for lunch today. Kalamazoo, MI. 6 May 07.

Not a stunning photograph, but an interesting one-- a shipwreck on Short Sands beach was uncovered by the Patriot's Day storm in April. The beach has to lose about 7 feet (deep) of sand for the shipwreck to be visible. My aunt remembers seeing it after the blizzard of '78, and remembers how quickly the sand came back in to cover it up, too. These top two photos were taken by me a week after the storm. The lower one, by Don Clark, was published in The York Weekly. For the whole story, qlick here. York Beach, Maine. 29 April 2007.

It's spring in Bronson Park, where the tulips are always lovely. Kalamazoo, MI. 3 May 2007.

Thursday, May 03, 2007

This is reminiscent of a photo I shot back in January just after an ice storm. Although the "dripping" ice was interesting, I'll take the cherry blossoms any day. The Cathedral of Christ the King, Kalamazoo, MI. 3 May 2007.
