At the southern tip of the South Island of New Zealand, there is this seemingly unremarkable formation of rocks pointing south to Antartica. What you don't see or can't tell from this picture is that the rocks are actually HUGE-- each one of these are about 100 meters high-- and quite remarkable when you're there in the midst of it! 7 June 2002.

I'm attending a meeting in Chicago today with the Presiding Bishop, so it seemed like a good time for another photo from her Investiture at Washington Cathedral. Today she told the assembled members of the church's committees, comissions, agencies and boards to get to work. "Do it faithfully. Do it with energy. Do it with passion. You can help us change the world." 4 November 2006.

I have to admit to very mixed feelings about the American flag-- everything from "it was very important to my father and therefore it's important to me" to "I'm embarrassed to be associated with it when it's on weapons and when it gets turned into an idol." Having said that, the light at the Washington Monument was spectacular as the sun was setting and moon was rising over the Capitol late this afternoon. Washington, DC. 2 November 2006.
