Wings...

I seem to have a wings theme going here. It was unintentional. Just some fun shots exercising a new Canon 5D Mark IV with a 100-400 4.5-5.6 USM II. 10 September 2016. Loantaka Brook Reservation. Morristown, New Jersey.

Oh no! A whole year has past!

 

In a moment of panic I realized that a whole year was about to pass without posting a single image to this blog. It's not as if I haven't shot any-- quite the contrary. Apparently I've been busy or something. This is a recent favorite. We happened upon fields of Brussels sprouts growing, in the late afternoon, as we drove up Highway 1. There was something about the light and the endless fields of little green veggie balls that was fascinating. 28 December 2014. Half Moon Bay, California.

 

This series of images is from a trip to the Svalbard Islands in search of polar bears. We were not dissapointed, and saw many other wonderful things along the way.

In February we ventured into the land of EXTREME cold in search of the Aurora Borealis-- in our case, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. The average temperature when I was shooting was -40 degrees (farenheit and centigrade are the same at that temperature!), with windchill it was -53F.

We had a most delightful walk at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. It happened that we were there on Veteran's Day Weekend, so admission was free-- Thank you, vets! As I recall from my only previous visit there (about the same time of year) it can get crowded on a Saturday morning and make people-free shooting difficult. We got there about 9, and the masses didn't seem to arrive (with a lot of young children) until about 10. It is a gorgeous location. I'm on retreat in Santa Fe for a few days, and between reading a variety of interesting books, I've been giving my camera some exercise. Above is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis, from my room. The kiva fireplace in my room and the quarter-hour peal of the cathedral bells make for a most ideal setting. Santa Fe, New Mexico. 5 November 2013.

These are all from a 2011 trip to Arusha, Tanzania, on a teaching project, that included 2, 4 night stays in the Serengeti. I realized that I never posted them, and since this blog sometimes serves as my 'cloud' when I need an image I've shot, I figured I'd load 'em all up at once (well, actually, there are thousands more, and I haven't included the best because I hope to be able to sell them).
