I can't believe how long it has been since I've had time to post anything here! Needless to say, there's been lots going on, including an impending move to Minnesota.

This trillium is always a delight to see when it blooms-- it's smack dab in the middle of some pachysandra (but nobody seems to have told it that) in our front yard.

Kalamazoo, Michigan. 26 April 2010.

"For lo, the winter is over...." Kalamazoo, Michigan. 18 March 2010.

Can a bee get drunk on pollen? After a long winter, I imagine this one is three sheets to the wind. Kalamazoo, Michigan. 18 March 2010.

We had a good bit of snow Sunday night, and it was wet. The way it stuck to this chain link fence made for an interesting background. Kalamazoo, Michigan. 22 February 2010.

I don't know what people picture when I tell them that my mother lives in Maine, on the ocean. So in case you were wondering what it looks like from inside her house-- this is just how "on the ocean" she is. York Harbor, Maine. 2 January 2010.

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Found some more photos that I took in Maine with the point-and-shoot. Compare this picture of what my mother calls "Table Rock" with this one, taken a day later at low tide. York Harbor, Maine. 2 January 2010.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

One last photo from the "trip-to-Maine" series. While it looks like it could be either a sunset or a sunrise, it's actually a sunrise on a bitterly cold morning. The temperature was in the single digits, and since the ocean was warmer than the air there were wisps of mist hovering close to the water. York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

The American Falls (from the Canadian side). Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. 7 January 2010.

Monday, January 18, 2010

On the way home from Maine we spent the night in Niagara Falls (the Canadian side), where they have received a good bit of snow. The mist from the falls turns even the thinnest blade of grass into a frozen monument. The Canadian Falls, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. 7 January 2010.

On the morning after the storm there was hardly any evidence of what had happened. The sun was bright, the sky was blue and the waves were gorgeous. York Harbor, Maine. 4 January 2010.

In order to finish the quote from Luke, I went to some photos of a walk that I take each Good Friday with some of the homeless folks in Kalamazoo... "...but the Son of God has no where to lay his head."
Kalamazoo, Michigan. 10 April 2010.

Friday, January 15, 2010

So I went in search of a bird so I could continue the quote from Luke: "...and birds of the air have their nests..."
York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

... and this reminds me of the words from Luke: "Foxes have their holes...
York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

... this one seems to be in hot pursuit...
York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

There are lots of foxes that live in the neighborhood....
York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

It seemed like life was happening in black and white during this storm. The one bit of color came from a washed-up lobster buoy. York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

Low tide in the midst of a storm. It seems funny to see snow on top of rocks and seaweed that are normally covered by water. York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

Saturday, January 09, 2010

A wave caught in mid-break. I love the seaweed that appears to be suspended in the water. York Harbor, Maine. 3 January 2010.

Sunrise, low tide, at my mother's house. York Harbor, Maine. 30 December 2009.

St. Francis always seems to have a basketfull of something to share. Texas Corners, Michigan. 20 December 2009.

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

The early morning sun on the snow revealed someone's home. Who do you suppose lives in there? Texas Corners, Michigan. 20 December 2009.

One of the butterfly bushes after the eve of Advent IV snowfall. Texas Corners, Michigan. 20 December 2009.

Monday, December 21, 2009

We were blessed with a dusting (3 - 4") of snow on the eve of Advent IV, and the garden at church was beautiful in the early morning light. Texas Corners, Michigan. 20 December 2009.

Another photo from the ones I took 10 days ago of the Advent nosegay. These flowers would surely have died in the blizzard we had this past week! Kalamazoo, Michigan. 3 December 2009.

Saturday, December 05, 2009

An Advent nosegay. For some reason this petite vaseful of small flowers has survived freezing temper-
atures, the little bit of snow that we've had and a host of other assaults (including the four-legged kind, pictured in yesterday's post). What tenacity! And what lovely shades of purple! They seemed destined to die in this last snowfall, so I (rather selfishly, perhaps) picked them. They are sitting on the dining room table, in the midst of the Advent wreath. A reminder of the tenacity that is to come! Kalamazoo, Michigan. 4 December 2009.

It's not unusual to have dear visiting at breakfast and dinner, but lunch, too? I guess they could be in the backyard at other times and I just don't stop long enough to notice...? Kalamazoo, Michigan. 4 December 2009.

Got to spend time in Chicago this weekend, where a film I made was screening in a film festival. This also meant getting to spend time with good friends and their dogs. Izzy is a champion tennis ball chaser-- I'm not sure I've ever seen a dog run so fast! (Double click on the photo to enlarge it.) Chicago, Illinois. 14 November 2009.

Either the deer that visit us each morning and evening have gotten very comfortable in our back yard, or they are holding a sit-down strike, waiting for their friend Pamela to return. Kalamazoo, Michigan. 26 October 2009.

One last shot of the Sandhill Crane migration. These two seemed to be doing a mating dance-- it was most impressive, and I was sorry to be so far away. 25 October 2009. Bellevue, Michigan.
